On a spring day, we took a
drive alongside the St Johns River, starting in
Jacksonville and working our way south.
Florida State Route 13
follows the river, sometimes hugging it closely.

outline of our journey. We started in the
Mandarin neighborhood of Jacksonville and then followed FL Route 13 south.
This trip was suggested by our local Sunday newspaper. |

The river is quite wide is some

The river sediments and flora often present a magical
array of colors. Here, at the
Shands Pier, we found a variety of Autumn colors including yellow, orange,
and rust. |

This is the bridge at Six Mile Creek. We found an interesting restaurant
here and stayed for a late lunch. |

This is the Outback Crab Shack Restaurant as seen from
the Six Mile Creek. They have their own dock and people come to eat by means
of boats as well as cars. The menu here specializes in sea food, but the
platters include alligator. We had a platter of mixed alligator, clams, shrimp, and fish.
