Many people have inquired about the pictures that we have
taken and what cameras we used.
The answers are actually quite straightforward.
Prior to the Italy trip (in September, 2002) all photographs were taken with
ordinary 35mm film cameras. We had two: a Canon and an Olympus.
Photos for the website were scanned from prints and then edited.
In 2002, we purchased and used our first digital camera, an
Olympus Camedia D-510 3.2 Mpixel camera.
This digital camera was used in Italy and our Holland trip in 2003 along with
the Canon 35mm film camera.
In Holland, we met someone with an exciting new digital camera, a Canon
Powershot G2.
In July 2003, we ordered the then current model Canon
Powershot, we received the G3, a 4 Mpixel camera which we used for a few years.
In December 2004, we ordered the Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel
SLR, a 6.5 Mpixel body with two lenses,
the 18-55mm and the 75-300mm telephoto lens. These were in preparation for
the Galapagos trip. With this addition, we shelved all our film
cameras.
In November 2005, we added a small Canon Ixus 40 (4 Mpixel)
to our camera collection. In May, 2006, we bought another Canon Ixus (the 5 Mpixel
Ixus 55).
In April 2010, we replaced both Ixus cameras with two Panasonic
Lumix ZS5 (a.k.a. TZ7), 12.1 Mpixel mega-wide, ultra-zoom (Travel Zoom) cameras.
With the digital cameras, we now take thousands of
pictures on each adventure. For example,
in the Galapagos/Ecuador and Peru trip, we took a total of 1145 pictures, in Alaska, almost 1000,
and more than 2700 in Russia.
We shoot all pictures at maximum resolution and then after culling and editing (cropping and
sizing), the pictures are posted to web pages.
